hi all,
i was wondering if anyone had any silver sharks in their tanks and knew anything about the chasing behaviour they display? i was wondering if it is breeding behaviour or just general play?
also. my boyfriend has two silver sharks in a tank thats roughly 60 litres and i read somehwere recently that the size of the tank matters, specifically large tanks are preferred as they have the potential to grow quite big! does anyone know if we are being 'cruel' by keeping them in a 2 foot tank?
thanks guys!!! :)

I have 2 sliver sharks in my 2 foot tank with 4 other fish ive had them for 11 months and there are doing fine. The chasing is most the time playing but be careful they tend to jump out of water..............

Hey Kat.
I have seen silver sharks 20cm in length. But I do not know if it is true fish grow relative to the size of the tank. Can anyone else comment? ...John

Hi John, I have always wondered weather there was any truth in the theory that fish will only grow to their available surroundings.
I do believe it will stunt them from complete normal growth, but when you look at fish like Pleco's, salmon tail catfish, good ol' Murray cod,Barra etc etc that will always just keep getting bigger and bigger and over grow a tank, it makes you wonder.

To throw another aspect on growth in aquariums, I bought a couple of Blueline Sharks (catfish) some 12 months ago from VL Aquarium (High St, Preston) and they became part of my 1200 litre community tank. Going back to VL recently, the same batch of sharks that mine came from are at least 1/3 bigger than mine now.
The only thing this comes down to is that they are not active (aggressive) feeders, and my cichlids demolish the food before they get much.
Food for thought :) Haha

Mine are probably ~ 15 cms but they're being stunted for the above reasons. Hence why I am selling them for $200.00 the pair :)
