Hi, i have a 4 foot tank which holds about 170 litres of water. I am thinking of putting a fluval 405 with 2 spray bars on this tank which i want to set up for africian cichlids. Can anyone tell me if this will be ok or should i get a smaller filter ? Thanks for your help http://westerncichlids.com.au/forum/style_emoticons/default/fish2.gif

Sounds about right.:), but...you could go down a size if you're worried about the potential turbulence in the tank. Either the Fluval 305 or the Eheim Professional II 2026 would be OK too, and would save you a bit on money that you could use for other tank goodies.:D

Cheers

I have a 170 litre tank (http://www.agritura.com/index.php/cat/c344_Aquariums.html) and I originally had a Eheim 2213 external and Fluval 3+ running but with me having cichlids which are pretty dirty fish, I got offered a EHEIM professionel II 2028 for £60 (at that price I bit his hand of) which is a great filter.

So, twice the tank size = 340Ltr. and 4x150ltr is a flow rate of 600 ltrs. Further to this estimate, from what I've read, I should increase this figure by 25% to take into account inefieciency that results from adding media (http://www.agritura.com/index.php/cat/c373_Lighting.html) etc.
