id like to ad a plec to my big tank are they likely to cause damage to a qld lungfish

I would say Yes.
Depending on the size of either one, it would just be a question when rather than if. I have seen pleco’s strip large American cichlids so a lungfish would hardy be a challenge.

could you suggest a suitable algae eater?

Lungfish eat fish so any small algae eaters will be a potential meal and if they are spiky they run the risk of getting stuck in its mouth.
The lungfish I looked after for a while ate all the fish I ever put with him but didn’t like high light levels, so that in its self kept down the algae. I found I just had to manually clean the front of the tank when needed. I never found another solution other than chemical algae inhibiters and keeping the light and nutrient levels low.
Sorry it’s not much help for you selecting a fish.
