Hi,
Another newbie question. I have never had an aquarium but have inherited a tank its 1.5ft deep, 3ft long and 2ft high with 10mm glass plus a mirror stuck on the back (i was told it will hold about 250l). I would like to keep a cod in this but what would be a respectable size cod before i had to upgrade to something bigger ? and better yet what would i be looking at $ wise for a cod (other info i have seen tells me they start at around 5cm), Im in the ACT. It came with a 750h\l pump with bacterial filter and small pebbles and i just bought some big plastic plants off ebay. Any suggestions would be great as the wife wont let me do anything till i prove myself first :)
Cheers

Hey mate, welcome to the forum.
You're right, Cod fingerlings are available at 5-7cm, and would be the best size to suit your tank. They can grow quite fast, and I wouldn't imagine it would be more than a year or two before he outgrows that tank. There are a few blokes who keep Cod on this forum, so if you peruse some of the older threads you should be able to find plenty of information to get you started.
Good luck convincing the Mrs!

if your cod are kept indoors (presumably 18 degrees and upwards)
he will outgrow your tank within six months.
Good choice of fish though.
Much more interesting than your typical oscar or neon tetras.
Just make sure you don't keep him with anything else in a tank that size,
he'll leave them alone until they're big enough to fit in their mouth head first.
Murray cods cost reasonably cheap considering what they'll grow into.
An investment of 6 to 10 dollars would get you an inch long cod.
cods are great fish.
smart, enthusiastic (when it comes to feeding time), and just an awesome sizable fish to keep.
good luck convincing the mrs!

Hi, I'm new to this site. I am looking to buy some young Murray Cod for a pond in Sydney. Does anyone know of anyone in Sydney that has any to sell?
